Why Volunteer?

When you think of volunteering, a lot of times, we focus on the “what” part of volunteering. What activities people can do with the dog and what Mackenzie’s does as an organization, but let’s talk about the “why” of volunteering. An organization like ours needs volunteers, because without them, our dogs won’t get adopted. These dogs have already been through so much in their lives. They’ve been abandoned and/or abused,
some have never known human kindness. By the time our dogs arrive at Mackenzie’s, they’ve gone through the shelter system. Every single one of them is nervous and scared. That’s why volunteers are so vital to our organization. Volunteers get the dogs out of their kennels, they help with their training so they know how to sit and lay down for potential adopters. Our volunteers play a huge role in helping us socialize our dogs so we can get them into their forever homes. Without volunteers, our dogs would not succeed.

It is because of people like you that are committed to the betterment of our local animal community that make our mission at Mackenzie’s possible and for that we are forever grateful.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary always has volunteer positions available. Volunteering can be very rewarding and a great way to meet new people, spend time with friends and family and of course, help the dogs in here at the sanctuary.

There are many different volunteer opportunities available at MAS:

  • Helping the dogs at the sanctuary: walking, training, feeding, grooming, reading, playing, etc.
  • Educational/community outreach events
  • Meet and Greets: We have Meet and Greets all over West Michigan!
  • Fundraisers
  • Distributing and collecting donation boxes

Orientation and training sessions are typically held in a group format on Saturdays or by appointment as needed. Complete a Volunteer Application to get started!

Want to help in your own way?

We are also looking for volunteers for tasks around the sanctuary like office help, data entry, sewing, donation management, cleaning, maintenance, or groundskeeping. Complete a Volunteer Application to get started!
