We are excited to share that we are now partnering with Bonfire, an online store to raise funds by selling Mackenzie’s shirts. Learn more...
At Mackenzie’s, we want you to have a safe and enjoyable volunteer experience. We also realize that dog-loving volunteers like learning more about animals. We have a two-step training program that all volunteers follow:
1. Attend an orientation & 1st training. These are held twice a month on Saturdays, starting at 9:30 a.m. Check our calendar for exact dates. At this session we cover Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary goals, philosophy, history, k-9 body posture, behavior and general M.A.S. rule. This session is approximately 2.5 – 3 hours depending on the number of attendees and questions.
2. If you decide that you would like to train for kennel volunteering, we schedule a second training session. At this session, you will receive information on the typical volunteer visit, tour the main kennel & learn "Hands On" M.A.S. training techniques.
We strive to match volunteer assignments with the individual. Your assignment can be adjusted to your comfort level or to reflect any special needs you may have.
Additional training on dog behavior, training, handling, and health care is offered as you grow the program.
We ask that if you attend the two training sessions, you will commit to serving a minimum of 30 hours after training. Most volunteer visits last 2-3 hours, so 30 hours would be 10 to 15 visits. These visits can be once a week, once every two weeks, or once a month, or whatever works best in your personal schedule. We realize that our volunteers are busy people, so the days you volunteer can vary.
To schedule a seat in the next orientation, go back to the ‘Home Page’ of this site and click ‘Volunteer’. We look forward to hearing from you!
