Intake Date – 12/17/2008
Adoption Date – 5/7/2009Lucas Update 6-3-09
Lucas is almost done with his Obedience Class! He was very laid-back & easily distracted in the class at first, seeming to gradually ease himself into it… honestly, he wasn’t super interested in paying attention at first! Mom said that this week he has gotten a little better about paying attention, and was actually used for a demonstration in class. Mom commented he probably won’t be the valedictorian of his class, but he can at least ‘come’ when called (as long as there are no chipmunks around!).
So the family found out Lucas is a chip-munk chaser! Those little critters drive him crazy. He’ll dig holes in the yard just to get to one. Lucas also loves water sprinklers! They’ll turn them on in the yard, and Lucas will chase the water, run through it, jump around… he loves it!
They said Lucas is still very gentle, mild, and so loving. He enjoys taking his bed out of the crate to position it on the carpet & lie down on it…. which the family finds quite funny!
Mom says he is definitely bonding with the family, and still is adjusting very well to the new home.
Update from Lucas’ Family – 5-15-2009
Mom said things have been going really, really well! The whole family is enjoying having Lucas’ cuddly playful personality as part of their home. They have chosen his new name…. he is now known as “Reilly”, and surprisingly is already coming to this name when called!Lucas has shown great house-manners this week. He only had one potty accident, but Mom says that she missed his signals to go outside, so it wasn’t his fault. Lucas has done great with crate training, especially at night-time. Lucas is loving his exercise time too – they walk two times a day, and Lucas even jogs with their son! He hardly even pulls on the leash anymore.
Lucas loves to play, especially when it comes to stealing their sons’ clothes out of their room! Mom laughs at his goofy antics and finds it quite hilarious! Lucas and their 9 year old daughter are the best of friends already. Mom said at bedtime, it’s so awesome to see Lucas curl up next to their daughter to listen to ‘Story Time’, and then he falls asleep at her side. ” title=”Smile” /> Then soon after she falls asleep too – Mom says it’s the cutest thing.
Now that he’s become comfortable, his personality has come out more – and Lucas has shown that he has awesome springs in those legs for jumping when he’s excited to see you! Mom said they’re working on it patiently, and are already enrolled for Obedience Classes with Mary Beth Tourre starting this weekend.
Mom said they are so thrilled with Lucas – they cannot believe anyone would pass him up for adoption! She’s delighted that he’s turned out to be a great fit for their family. ” title=”Smile” />
