My dog seems to have some area’s that are sensitive to touch. What can I do to help him overcome his sensitivity?
Touch and Massage –
1. Massage you’re your dog twice daily for one week, three minutes each time. Massage or touch the dogs’ head, shoulders, chest, front legs, pads, toenails, etc. If you find an area that becomes uncomfortable when massaging, massage them in a place they like to be touched and slowly use your other hand to try and touch the spot they didn’t like.
2. Once the dog is comfortable with the first stage, slightly roll them over incorporating the belly, feet, flanks and tail, etc.
3. Also, teach your dog to allow you to gently open their mouth and put your fingers inside. Talk slowly to them and give them a small treat. This will help ready them for vets to examine and groomers to groom.
4. Now use a grooming brush and just touch it to the dogs back, chest, legs, etc. Do not groom the dog but just touch until the dog appears comfortable, then you may begin grooming.
5. Use a nail clipper and touch it to the dog’s feet, do not clip or force the dog to hold still but gently touch the dog while talking softly
