Intake Date – 11/30/2001
Adoption Date – 4/24/2009Blue’s 1st Week at Home 5-1-2009
Mom proudly shared that Blue has been a very good boy. J Blue seems very comfortable in their home, and very happy with his new parents who are home most of the day, and promise to schedule their day around him & his special needs for the rest of his life…. he’s definitely worth it!
So far this week, Blue seems to really love getting belly massages, and loves napping on his comfy soft pillow-beds. He’s had no accidents at all, is a gentleman about getting his eye drops, and even sleeps well through the night.
Blue had a couple restless nights at first, because there were Thunderstorms the first 2 days he was home – and both Mom & Dad were there to help him through it. As expected with Blue’s fear & anxiety about Thunderstorms, he was shivering and panting a lot, and tried to hide in the corner of their closet. Mom stayed by his side, but still felt so bad for him because on top of the “scary” storm, he was in a new home too. Mom knows not to reinforce the fearful behavior by coddling him, so she just stayed there to talk to him & support him as best she could. After the weekend, they visited their Veterinarian for proper medications to help ease his anxiety during any future storms (they’re trying Acepromazine).
Blue absolutely loves his big fenced yard out in the country! At first, he was mostly just walking the perimeter over and over, but now he seems more relaxed and takes time to really enjoy the yard. They discovered his favorite yard activity is sun-bathing, which is so cute with his belly up & feet dangling in the air! Another of Blue’s favorite things is cuddling – he is the biggest cuddler around, and they love that about him. J
Blue also enjoys his long walks every day. Mom says he truly is a ‘busy-bee’… she says you would never guess he’s 11 years old by his spunky activity level! Blue loves to keep busy with daily exercise, and don’t forget his Kong Toys every day too. He is so relaxed & content with his Kong, and really seems to enjoy focusing on the challenge of digging out the treats – Mom says he’s a Kong PRO!
Mom couldn’t say enough good things about Blue, how great Blue is doing adjusting to the home, and how HAPPY they are to have him!!
Update: 2/25/2010 From Blue’s Family:
"Blue taught me to appreciate winter. I will never ever complain about too much snow. Snow and winter means no rain, and no t-storms means a happy Blue. He is doing so great. You should see him. We had a vet appt. yesterday for his annual heartworm test and a vaccine, and the vet said the he looks really great for his age. She discovered a slight heart murmur but according to her it’s nothing to worry about. We just have to observe, and if he starts coughing, we need to let her know immediately.
Also, we have one unfinished room in the basement. It will be converted into a sound-proof second living room. And whenever it rains heavily or there is a t-storm approaching, we will move downstairs. Kind of like our very own t-storm bunker. ” title=”Smile” />
Well, gotta go – Blue is waiting for his late morning walk. Daddy always plows trails through the woods for his boy."
When I told her I was going to share this with MAS, she said:
"Hey, share away Blue’s story. Everybody out there should know, and everybody out there should also know that it is well worth to adopt a senior dog or a dog with anxiety issues – or both together! I love him so much!!"
