On 10/20/2025, we stepped up to help a rescue partner we’ve worked with for years. They reached out specifically about Zina—a heavily pregnant, incredibly sweet dog who had been surrendered simply for being pregnant. We had the space, and it had been some time since we’d taken in an expectant mom – we knew we could give her the care she deserved!

Caring for a pregnant dog is never simple. We don’t know how many puppies she will have, whether they’ll be born healthy, or if Zina herself might need medical support during delivery. But the uncertainty is always worth it. Zina needed us, and her unborn puppies deserved a safe, stable environment where they could begin life healthy and protected.

Thankfully, our amazing kennel manager opened her home to give Zina a quiet, peaceful place to nest and deliver. Once the puppies are old enough, they’ll come to the sanctuary, where our dedicated staff and wonderful volunteers will help socialize them as they grow. We’re also fully equipped to provide any medical intervention Zina or the puppies may need—from prenatal care to puppy vaccines—and each one will be spayed or neutered to help break the cycle of unwanted litters before heading to their forever homes.

Helping a fellow rescue in need, helping Zina, and helping her babies was simply the right thing to do. This is why we’re here—to give dogs in need the chance at the healthy, loving future they deserve.

**UPDATE 10/29/2025**

Momma Zina has officially outdone herself — she gave birth to a whopping 11 healthy puppies! That’s 6 boys and 5 girls filling the nursery with tiny paws, puppy snores, and the sweetest little squeaks you’ve ever heard!

We’re now accepting adoption applications for these adorable babies so that when they’re weaned from Mom and ready to spread their wings, they can head straight into the loving forever homes they deserve.

As of July, 2026 all of Zina’s puppies have officially been adopted – The spotlight finally belongs to Mom!

Zina isn’t looking for a busy household full of excitement. In fact…she’d politely decline. Her perfect day is wonderfully simple: a predictable routine, a cozy couch, a walk with her favorite person, and a quiet evening at home.

She’s a little reserved when meeting new people, but once you’re part of her circle, you’re in for life. Zina is incredibly loyal and forms deep bonds with the people she loves. She’ll happily trade belly rubs for gentle kisses before curling up beside you for a well-earned nap.

Her ideal family understands that not every dog wants to host the party. Zina would thrive in an adult-only home where life is calm, visitors are few and far between, and routines stay consistent. She’d love to be your one and only dog, though she doesn’t mind sharing her home with cats.
