Date of Birth: September 13, 2021
In September of 2025, Bubbles was found by police, frightened and unable to walk, presumably after being hit by a car. She was injured and unable to stand on her own, facing an unimaginable future. As officers worked to trace where she belonged, one owner pointed to another, and another denied ever taking responsibility. Through no fault of her own, Bubbles was left without anyone to advocate for her at the moment she needed it most.
Thankfully, Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary stepped in.
Despite the trauma she had endured, Bubbles never lost the gentle spirit that makes her so special. Though shy and understandably cautious at first, she quickly discovered that kind voices, patient hands, and a few tasty treats could still be trusted. Beneath her uncertainty was a sweet, affectionate girl eager to connect with the people willing to move at her pace. She leaned into full-body scratches, soaked up every bit of attention she could get, and reminded everyone around her that love is always worth trying again.
The road to recovery has not been easy. Bubbles suffered a spinal cord injury that left her with significant weakness and ataxia—a neurological condition that affects coordination and balance. For Bubbles, that means her back legs don’t always communicate perfectly with her brain. She walks with a wobbly gait, sometimes stumbles, and occasionally loses her footing altogether. The injury also resulted in urinary incontinence, meaning she doesn’t always have complete control over her bladder. These lasting effects serve as daily reminders of the trauma she endured, but they do not define her.
Through dedicated rehabilitation, Bubbles’ mobility has improved dramatically. She continues regular physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that support her movement, improve her balance, and help her maintain as much independence as possible. While she will likely always experience some degree of weakness and unsteadiness, the progress she has made is nothing short of remarkable.
MAS has remained committed not only to helping Bubbles heal from the injuries she suffered, but also to protecting her future health. During her spay surgery, Bubbles underwent a preventative gastropexy, a procedure commonly recommended for large, deep-chested breeds like Mastiffs who are at higher risk for bloat—a sudden, life-threatening condition in which the stomach twists on itself. By taking this proactive step while she was already under anesthesia, Bubbles’ risk of a future emergency was significantly reduced, giving her one more safeguard as she continues healing. She has also received comprehensive veterinary care to address everything from painful medical issues to the recurring illnesses that can arise during recovery.
And through it all, Bubbles continues to show up each day with quiet resilience. She leans into gentle scratches, melts into the affection of the people she trusts, and celebrates the small victories many of us take for granted. Bubbles may move through the world a little differently now, but she does so with grace, determination, and a sweetness that has that has returned even after everything she has endured.
