Intake Date – 2/11/2009
Adoption Date – 5/29/20096-4-2009 Mia’s 1st Week at Home
Mom said Mia has been doing really well this first week. They actually went to Vet today to update her records, and she did great there at the Vet Office. Mia is still a little unsure about riding in the car, so she’ll try to crawl up in front to sit on Mom’s lap, but Mom is working with her on staying in the back seat. ” title=”Smile” />Mia has only had a few minor potty accidents this week, but that was only when she lost sight of Mom and became a little anxious. Mom said Mia has been attached to her side, and is becoming very bonded to their family. Mia sleeps well at night, likely since she gets to sleep with Mom & Dad and feels secure there. Mom said Mia loves to be close, making sure she can feel them next to her.
They introduced her to children in their extended family, and Mia did really great around the kids. She loves people, and loves attention! Mia really enjoys her fenced yard too, especially when she’s running around, getting all playful & fiesty with Mom & Dad. She hasn’t tried digging in the yard at all either. She would rather play, or watch the neat sightings of nature outdoors.
Mia loves her walks, and does really well on the chest-harness & leash. Mom is starting to look for an Obedience Class in their area that they can enroll Mia in. They’ll keep us updated on their little sweetheart Mia in the future!
Update – 7/8/2009
After eight years of living on our own, we were considering getting a dog. We were unsure since a dog would add considerable responsibility. Would this alter our lives too much? Would we be able to handle the extra work? We looked on-line at various shelters and at various dogs, but we always hesitated. However, one day one particular dog caught our attention. Her name was Mia, and she had such beautiful brown eyes. We arranged to meet her with Kristi at Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary. By the end of our first visit she was sleeping in our laps and we couldn’t bear to leave. It was love at first sight! Taking her home was no longer an option, it was necessary. So we fenced in a portion of our yard, purchased toys and food and treats, and watched videos on how to be a dog owner. By the end of May, we were ready for our new family member!
The day Mia arrived was an exciting one. She was a little nervous after Kristi left, and followed us around to make sure we were still with her. She quickly adjusted though and now loves her new routine. Every morning and evening we take long walks (the beach is her favorite). She is so curious about all the smells. Her nose is amazing! She loves to chase bumblebees, squirrels, butterflies, seagulls…really, just about anything. Crayfish aren’t so good though, they pinch! After breakfast she loves to play with her ball, or do tricks for treats. She also likes to nap in the warm grass in her yard, or in one of our laps. Cuddling is another favorite activity, especially when it’s time for bed.
Getting Mia was an excellent decision. She has been such a joy! She is affectionate, playful, sweet, and silly. Has she altered our lifestyle? Absolutely. Is there extra work? Of course, but we hardly notice or care because she makes us so happy. Our lives are filled with loving Mia. We are so grateful to Mackenzie’s for introducing us to our little girl.P.S. Mia says, “Thanks for taking such good care of me! The collar I borrowed should be in the mail soon.”
