MEDICAL – When a dog comes to Mackenzie’s, medical care is our first priority. When you adopt from Mackenzie’s you’ll receive all medical records including records of: The spay or neuter, Heartworm test, current vaccinations according to age (including Rabies, DHLPP and Bortetella), de-worming for internal parasites, de-fleaing, microchipping and if necessary extensive medical treatment reports.
TRAINING – We start basic training with each dog as soon as they enter M.A.S. And in order to help this dog succeed in their new home, the continuation of this positive reinforcement based training is necessary for all family members. In the first visit with the potential adopter, we will go over the dog’s basic training including what we have been teaching the dog so far, letting the dog show off what commands he already knows, and also go over any general behavioral issues that a rescue dog might have in a new home. On the second visit we go over a little more detail of how to continue this training, and also give the adopter a helpful DVD that shows step-by-step how to successfully get your adopted dog adjusted to the new home routine & how to do this positive-based training yourself!
