When Clovis arrived at our sanctuary in June of 2022, he was a heartbreaking sight—a skeletal frame barely holding on to life, his body covered in painful wounds, his spirit worn thin from neglect. He had been abandoned, left to fend for himself in the cruelest way. His teeth were shattered, his fur was falling out, and deep hunger had driven him to desperate measures—eating anything he could find, even things that could have harmed him.

Despite the immense pain he must have been in, Clovis greeted his rescuers not with fear, but with gentle affection. Beneath the scars of his past, he had every reason to be broken, yet he remained soft-hearted and full of love.

At our sanctuary, Clovis received the urgent medical care he needed, but his road to recovery was far from easy. His past had left him with lasting challenges—many of his damaged teeth had to be removed, and he now relies on soft food for every meal. His stomach, weakened from years of malnourishment and illness, requires a strict prescription diet. He had developed pica and coprophagia, conditions that caused him to eat non-food items, a heartbreaking habit formed out of sheer survival. Clovis also struggled with severe pancreatitis and had to undergo emergency surgery to remove foreign objects lodged in his intestines, followed by a battle with a life-threatening septic infection. Even now, his digestive system functions much more slowly than normal, making every meal something that must be carefully monitored.

Clovis has never lost his sweet and loving nature. He adores people of all ages, melting into affection at every opportunity. He loves nothing more than curling up in his cozy dog bed, snuggling into soft blankets, and soaking in every bit of kindness he receives. His gentle soul, once burdened by suffering, now shines with quiet resilience. His transformation has been made possible by people like you—those who refuse to look away from animals in need.
