The only way to know for sure that your pet has Heartworm is to have a simple blood test preformed by your veternarian. If your pet is on Heartworm preventative you should still have your pet tested yearly to make sure they are Heartworm negative. Heartworm does not present physical signs until late in the disease. Symptoms can include loss of energy, a cough, loss of stamina, difficulty breathing, a heart murmur, or collapse.
