AFTER 2,512 DAYS… GILBERT IS HOME!
Some dogs find their families quickly. Others take a little longer.
And then there are dogs like Gilbert, who remind us that sometimes the greatest gift we can give a dog is simply time… and the promise that we will never stop believing their family is out there.
Gilbert first came to Mackenzie’s on October 16, 2019, a mischievous 10-month-old puppy with his whole life ahead of him. And then somehow, those months turned into years.
For 2,512 days, Gilbert grew up at the sanctuary.
He made friends. He learned. He changed. He was loved by countless staff members and volunteers who watched him grow and who, year after year, hoped that someday someone would see what they had always seen in him.
Because Gilbert never stopped being special.
And then, finally… his people found him.
What started as a few sleepovers with an amazing volunteer family slowly became something more. They took the time to get to know Gilbert. They opened their home and their hearts. They fell completely in love with him—and somewhere along the way, Gilbert decided he had found his people, too.
