that would be so cool to see all 3 of them walking together!! we’ll definitely have to take lots of pictures to capture this big milestone achievement!! I loved dawn’s pictures from Roo’s walk on Sunday too. This is so exciting!

Today was another HUGE day for Roo!!! He went for his first walk with Sport. Kathy, Roo, Sport and I all took a nice slow walk to the octagon drive and back. It was slow going at first, but once Roo saw Sport right there with him, he started to get the hang of it. Kathy has really done an amazing job with him in just a short amount of time. Hopefully, soon we can get all three brothers out for walks together!!

i’m so proud of Roo and Kathy! Way to go you guys! it’s so amazing to see Roo and his brothers coming out of their shells more & more every day. to see them trusting their devoted humans and lighting up when they experience all the "new" little things that we are so used to and take for granted (a new smell like wild flowers or the scent of where a squirrel just ran across the walking path, or a new object like a leash, a new toy, a nearby ladder or trash can, etc.),… its just so neat to see them enjoying their discoveries of the world around them, and experiencing life to the fullest.

yeah I saw you & Babe walking together, and I was SO impressed at how well she walked at your side, it looked like she was barely pulling at all . . . what a well-mannered girl!! And such a loving affectionate girl too, it makes me smile when she plops down beside me and starts rubbing her head into my hand when she wants some lovin’…. yeah so maybe that’s her being a little pushy, but hey can you blame the girl for trying?! she is such a great girl :)

in reply to: New Animal Shelter for Ionia! #602

At first I was excited about the new animal shelter. But after reading that $200,000 or more is needed to get it built I wonder where the rest of the money will come from. I get so angry when I read about movie/TV stars spending $2,500 for a purse or watch ! My first thought is how much that money could help a homeless animal. Are wallets carried any better in that purse than a $10 one ? ! Is time easier to tell time on that expensive watch than on a cheap Timex ? ! The wrong people are rich !!!!!!!!!

Yes, it’s exciting each time I see Kathy working with Roo, because I know slowly, but surely, progress is being made. How awesome it is to have a feral dog start to overcome his fears!

in reply to: Ava the Wonderpuppy #569

I was bringing Ava in from the big play yard today. When somehow she got her hind leg from behind me in between my legs. To say the least I almost planted my face right into the concrete, but luckily Ava caught me on the way down, lol !! It could have diffiently been a moment on funniest home video’s for sure. She truely is "Ava the Wonderpuppy"!

We have so many "water dogs" at MAS. It is awesome that even in the winter they have a warm place to go for a relaxing swim. It is also great for our "old timers" with their arthritis to get in that nice warm water to loosen up the joints!!

I think Drake’s sad "Newfie" eyes really catch people’s attention. How could anyone resist that look?! He’s so handsome!

What a cute photo! Both dogs are definitely smiling! It’s evident they are having an awesome, happy playtime at the pool and no doubt enjoying Autumn’s interaction.

in reply to: Black Dogs #565

I also think it is a more subconsciuos "by chance" type thing. Maybe partly has to do with the photographs used to display those dogs for adoption online. The lighter color dogs more naturally show up brighter and more defined in the photos online. So it takes extra efforts (which are well worth it!) to ensure proper lighting, creative settings and eye-catching props for photos of black dogs. But aside from online photographs, that still leaves me wondering about the black dogs that people see IN-PERSON at the shelters…. I can see how Diane’s comment could make sense for that too.

in reply to: Saving more dogs #595

It is incredible to be able to save so many. It is because of all of us and our committment to the cause. Gracie is a bit vocal wanting attention. She is very wiggly and wants to be close to you. Guido is very wiggly and loose. He sure enjoys his food.

I know we all wish we could save every one of them, but saving even one is cause for happiness. :)

in reply to: Black Dogs #564

Apparently black dogs, and big black dogs in particular, are seen as evil by the majority of the population. Look at the Rottweiler in the movie "Omen" that portrays pure evil, or Doberman’s shown as aggressive junk yard guard dogs on drama or action TV shows. We have the media to thank for some of it, but it also stems from folklore. Big, black dogs just seem to induce fear on sight. Even the medical condition of depression has been called "the black dog". Isn’t it amazing what people will believe? You and I know differently. It’s about as silly as the Pit Bull syndrome.
