Roo likes to walk, just the 2 of us. After our walk I take him in the kitchen for a treat. While in there, there were at least 3 other people in there. He walked up behind Autumn who was scootched down on the floor and didn’t seem to mind any of the other people in there. He just does his little whine he does and we go about our business. He is getting more and more used to cars that drive by him on the walk. As long as they aren’t going to fast.
Mackenzie’s AdminMemberDogs are living breathing creatures, that have feelings & needs – just like humans do. Not only do they need people to understand their emotions/feelings that coincide with their behaviors; they also have physical & mental needs that must be met in order for them to be "healthy" and happy. It’s not good for people to be isolated from society, isolated from human interaction, not being mentally challenged, not getting to move and exercise…. people like this can become very unhealthy and mentally unstable. So then, why is it so hard to believe that a dog could become unhealthy (mentally and physically) and definitely unhappy from being left chained up alone, unsocialized, and isolated from any "pack" relationships with people and even other dogs? Both dogs & humans have a hierarchy of needs that should be met to keep them fulfilled & healthy. Like humans, dogs have a need to feel safe & secure. They also have a need for relationships, a need to be accepted as part of a family "pack", whether thats with humans and/or other dogs & family pets. Dogs have a need for physical & mental stimulation (like exercise with walks & fetch, playing with challenging toys, or enjoying sights & sounds of being with you on car rides or even hanging out with you at home). I believe that dogs have a right to health & happiness, just like people. I hope that more & more people will see that animals’ lives are valuable, and appreciate their feelings, needs, and their a right to a healthy happy life.
Mackenzie’s AdminMemberCarol, thanks for all you do too!! Appreciate the kind words. Quincey is doing well. He has come a long ways and we’ll get him where he needs to be.
Mackenzie’s AdminMemberThe justification people give for chaining their dog is truely unfathomable: He LIKES to be outside, he LIKES to just lie there, he’s OK, he doesn’t NEED to go anywhere, he’s JUST a dog!
With many compassionate people speaking out & helping to improve dog’s lives, we are surely making a difference in hopes that one day there will be no dog that is homeless, lonely, neglected, or abused.
As Ghandi said, "We must be the change we wish to see".Mackenzie’s AdminMemberI think $300,000 could build a pretty nice shelter, better than the one they are in right now. At least get it started and add on in the future. I guess I just don’t understand either.
Mackenzie’s AdminMemberVery Heart Touching

Mackenzie’s AdminMemberI sure am glad we don’t test the dogs for Meet Your Match over there any more. It felt like a jungle !! However, I do miss the fact that we can’t find out if the dogs love going in the water. I am glad that the dogs get to enjoy the building again.

Mackenzie’s AdminMemberI am so happy that Blossom is being helped with that issue. She is my very favorite. She & I came to Mackenzie’s at the same time. I remember how she & Lola, who was in the crate next to her in the pole barn when the Katrina dogs were first here, would come to the front of their crates as I passed by, hurrying to clean the crates of the dogs that were out in back for a break. Both of their tails were wagging from side to side.
I also completed a milestone with her – I overcame my fear of pitbulls. The first time I played with her I was a little hesitant. The first time I took a ball out of her mouth while playing, I was so shocked that I had "survived". Now I am a big defender of the breed. "No bad breeds, just back owners" – to quote the Dog Whisperer.

Mackenzie’s AdminMemberI’m excited about the upcoming update to the building to make the floor safer for both humans and the dogs when things get wet.
Mackenzie’s AdminMemberthat is AWESOME!!! what amazing progress! you’re right, with the outstanding pace they’ve been progressing in, it’s exciting to see what the future holds…. it gets even better with every day. keep up the great work everyone! Roo, Rusty and Sport thank you and love you for your devotion to them
Mackenzie’s AdminMemberRoo is getting more and more comfortable with going somewhere with me. I just wish he would come inside so I could put the lead on him. We went out walking Christmas eve. The only thing he’s not fond of is someone on a big machine. I just get off the road as far as we can in all this snow. Then I get on one knee and wait for the machine to go by. Roo hides behind me. He knows I won’t let anything hurt him.
Mackenzie’s AdminMemberKathy and I were almost rolling on the ground laughing at all these guys just running circles around the yard. Sprocket is the fastest, but Reno keeps up with him fairly well. Charlie Boy and Rico run about a half circle then wait for the other two to circle back around. None of them seemed to mind the cold and snowy conditions that day. Although I dont think they stood still long enough to get cold. What a bunch of cuties!!
